Future Projects
The Smart Sewer program is currently planned to be completed in 2040. With nearly 15 years left in the program, KC Water has a number of future projects planned. These include:
- The implementation of green infrastructure for at least 480 green acres.
- Inflow and Infiltration (I/I) reduction projects in separate sewer systems both north and south of the Missouri River to reduce sewer overflows. This will include both public sewer rehabilitation projects and continuation of our Keep Out the Rain private I/I reduction program.
- Capacity improvements at the Buckeye Pump Station
- New force main, gravity sewer conveyance improvements, and high rate treatment facilities at the Birmingham Influent Pump Station
- Relief Sewer – Round Grove
- Relief Sewer – Northland Relief Sewers and In-Line Storage Phase 1
- Relief Sewer – Northland Relief Sewers and In-Line Storage Phase 2
- A 30-million gallon per day high-rate treatment facility at the Blue River Wastewater Treatment Plant for the treatment of increased wet weather flows
- New disinfection facilities at the Blue River Wastewater Treatment Plant to increase its disinfection capacity to 70 million gallons per day
- Upgrades to the biosolids handling facilities at the Blue River Wastewater Treatment Plant, which include using an advanced digestion process to treat up to 94 dry tons per day of biosolids produced at the City’s three largest wastewater treatment plants
